BOOK

unnamed-1.jpg
The stories Walter and Mary Martha share in this book are simple, real and will melt your heart.
— Rev. Mark Goring, CC, Director, The Catholic Charismatic Center

When you hear the word “homeless,” what do you think? Do you picture a man sleeping under blankets on the street? A small child in Africa or some other poverty-stricken country? Or maybe you see a panhandler on the side of the road holding up a sign: “Homeless—Anything Will Help. God Bless You.”

Homelessness is complex, and Walter and Mary Martha Primerano aren’t out to define it or offer any easy answers. Instead, they want to introduce you to their friends. In this collection of stories and reflections, you’ll meet Evelyn, Dan, Uncle Johnny, Ms. Victoria, Sandra, and many more whose lives will shed a new light on homelessness. You’ll read about their hardships, their families, their life experiences, and even their hopes and dreams. As they form lasting relationships with the people of Breaking Bread Homeless Ministries and regularly receive food, groceries, and toiletries, these brave men and women both give and receive the love Jesus modeled.

News from the Streets will challenge what you think about homelessness. Even more, it will inspire you to look around at the people near you who are in need. Who are they? What is their story? And how can you love them in a way that makes a real difference?

We have a great people among us, only we do not know it. They are the poorest of the poor -
the unwanted
the uncared for
the rejected
the alcoholics
the crippled
the blind
the sick
the dying - people who have nothing and have nobody.
— Mother Teresa
Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.
— Proverbs 19:17
Whoever closes his ear to the cry of the poor will himself call out and not be answered.
— Proverbs 21:13
Together we can do something beautiful for God.
